About PetWise Daily

Hi, I’m Emily. I Answer Pet Questions for a Living.

PetWise Daily is a pet care blog written by real humans, for real pet parents.

Confession: I once gave dog health advice in a grocery store parking lot at 11 PM. A stranger’s puppy had an upset stomach, the stranger was panicking, and I happened to overhear. Ten minutes later I was walking her through a bland diet next to the shopping carts. This is, apparently, just who I am now.

For years, my phone was the emergency hotline for every pet owner I knew. New puppy won’t sleep through the night? Call Emily. Cat suddenly ignoring the litter box? Text Emily. Dog ate something off the sidewalk and now everyone’s Googling “can dogs eat that” at 2 AM? Yep. Emily.

I answered those questions gladly, because the truth is I liked it. I liked being useful. But after the fortieth late-night call, a friend asked me something that stuck: “Why don’t you just write all of this down somewhere, so we can stop waking you up?” So I did. That’s how PetWise Daily came to be.

How This All Started

It began with a notebook. Well, a phone note titled “things pet people ask me,” which currently has more than 400 entries and keeps growing. Every question I ever answered, every problem a friend’s dog or cat ever threw at them, went into that list. When I finally sat down to turn it into a blog, I wasn’t guessing what pet parents worry about. I had the receipts.

The early days were me, my laptop, and Biscuit asleep on my feet. Biscuit is my rescue dog, a scruffy mutt with the posture of a retired king, who runs this household with an iron paw. He claimed the good end of the couch on day one and has not relinquished it since. He is also, unofficially, this site’s quality control department. If I’m writing about a treat, Biscuit has eaten it. If I’m writing about a leash, Biscuit has tried to destroy it.

PetWise Daily grew from those late-night answers into something bigger than my phone’s contact list. But the spirit never changed. This is still the site I wish someone had handed me before my first panicked 2 AM Google search.

Why I Felt Qualified to Start It

I didn’t stumble into pet care. I’ve spent years in the thick of it: real questions from real owners, answered one at a time, followed up on the next day to see how things turned out. That rhythm taught me more than any course could. When a feeding schedule I suggested actually fixed a puppy’s stomach issues, I learned what works. When it didn’t, I learned more.

These days my main job is research. I read studies, compare sources, and dig until I’m satisfied the advice I’m giving holds up. Every article on this site passes through me before it goes live, and anything touching on health gets an extra careful look. I’m not a vet, and I won’t pretend to be one. But I am the person who will stay up reading three conflicting sources so you don’t have to.

I also refuse to recommend anything I wouldn’t buy myself. Every product on this site gets vetted before it earns a mention, and most of them get chewed on, scratched up, or slept in by Biscuit first.

I’m not doing this alone anymore, either. Sophia Bennett is our Pet Care Writer and Researcher. She’s the one who disappears into source material for days and comes back with training and behavior guides that actually make sense. She’s owned by two cats who have extremely strong opinions about dinner time, which is to say she’s extremely qualified.

Meet the Team

PetWise Daily is a small crew, and every name on this page is a real human who touches what you read. Here we are.

Emily Carter, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of PetWise Daily

Emily Carter

Founder & Editor-in-Chief

Emily started PetWise Daily after years of being every pet owner she knew’s emergency hotline. She personally reviews every article before it goes live, and anything touching health gets an extra-careful read. She’s not a vet, and she’d be the first to say so. But she’s the person who’ll read three conflicting sources at midnight so you don’t have to.

Who This Blog Is For

This site is for the person holding a trembling eight-week-old puppy and wondering if they’re already doing it wrong. (You’re not.) It’s for the first-time cat parent who just learned what a hairball is, up close, at 6 AM. It’s for anyone who’s ever typed a frantic question into their phone with one thumb while the other hand held a leash.

You don’t need experience to belong here. You just need to care about the animal at your feet, or asleep on your keyboard, and want to do right by them. No judgment, no lectures, no “well actually” energy. Just clear answers from people who’ve been exactly where you are.

What You’ll Actually Find Here

  • Dogs: everyday life with dogs, the good stuff and the chaos, written by someone living it daily.
  • Cats: feline behavior decoded, health basics, and how to make your home a place your cat actually likes.
  • Dog Training: humane, practical training that works in real living rooms, not just in theory.
  • Dog Health & Grooming: carefully researched health information and grooming how-tos, each one reviewed by me before publishing.
  • Dog Food & Feeding: honest breakdowns of what goes in the bowl, feeding schedules by age, and label-reading without the headache.
  • Dog Gear & Accessories: products that survived Biscuit, which is a harder test than any lab could design.

What We Stand For

1

Pet parents first

Just clear answers from people who’ve been exactly where you are.

2

Plain language

No judgment, no lectures, no “well actually” energy.

3

Evidence-based

Every article is fact-checked before it goes live.

The Random Stuff You Didn’t Ask For

  • Biscuit has a different spot on the couch for every mood, and I have learned all of them.
  • I judge dog parks by the state of their water bowls. Don’t ask me to explain.
  • Sophia’s cats once staged a full sit-in by the pantry because dinner was eleven minutes late.
  • That phone note of pet questions? It hit entry number 400 last spring. I celebrated. Alone.

How I Keep the Information on This Site Trustworthy

You trust me with the health of your animals. I don’t take that lightly, so here’s exactly how content gets made around here.

Every article is fact-checked before it goes live. I check numbers, claims, product details, and anything time-sensitive against reliable sources, and I cut anything I can’t verify. Then I read the whole thing myself, usually twice, editing for accuracy and clarity. Nothing publishes until it passes that review.

Pet care information changes, so I go back through older articles regularly and update anything that’s out of date. And when money is involved, you’ll always know: affiliate links and sponsored content are clearly marked, every time, no exceptions. If I recommend something, it’s because I believe in it, not because someone paid me to say so.

That is the whole deal. Real research, real review, real honesty. Your pets deserve nothing less.

Come Say Hello

I’m most active on Pinterest, where I pin every new guide the moment it goes up. If you have a question, a topic request, or a photo of your pet you simply must share, head to our contact page and send it over. I read everything.

And if you’re curious about the nitty-gritty of how articles are researched and reviewed, the full rundown lives on our editorial guidelines page.

Biscuit and I are glad you’re here. Well, I’m glad. Biscuit is asleep. But he’d be glad too if he were awake.

Have a question about your pet?

Send it over. I read everything.
